Postdoctoral Position (Biology) at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Heidelberg University

Heidelberg University

Helmholtz-University Young Investigators grant and ERC Starting Grant is funding postdoctoral research position at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and Heidelberg University, Germany. Applicant must have creativity, scientific excellence and the ability to work in a highly interdisciplinary team. Send your electronic application as indicating “postdoc-cell screening” in the subject.

About Scholarship: Are you talented, creative and highly motivated biologist? Do you want to work on an exciting, innovative and very challenging project? We want you to be part of our interdisciplinary team. High-throughput screening of live cells is extremely important to significantly accelerate both fundamental biological research and discovery of new drugs.

However, current methods for high-throughput cell screenings are limited and expensive. Screening of single cells is especially challenging. Recently we demonstrated the use of superhydrophobic-superhydrophilic micro arrays to create ultra high-density arrays of micro droplets (Droplet Microarrays). We believe that this method will become soon a new platform for ultra high-throughput screening of live cells.

The new technology will allow us to perform up to 300.000 individual cell experiments in parallel using a single chip. Individual cell experiments will be performed in thousands of completely isolated droplet micro reservoirs at defined locations on the chip. This will enable spatial indexing, time-lapse measurements and screening of single cells.

Study: This position is provided to study Ultra High-Throughput Screening of Single Cells using Droplet Microarrays in Germany.
Course Level: This position is for pursuing Postdoctoral research programme.
Scholarship by: Helmholtz-University Young Investigators grant and ERC Starting Grant (2013)
Location: Germany

Eligibility:-The goal of this postdoctoral project is, for the first time, to exploit the ability to perform ultra high-throughput screening of single cells in thousands of droplet micro reservoirs.
-A lot of different exciting fundamental biological questions can be answered using this novel technology.
-Creativity, scientific excellence, the ability to work in a highly interdisciplinary team will be the main qualities for a candidate for this position.

Scholarship Open for: Students of Germany are eligible for this postdoctoral research position.

Apply: electronically

Senior Research Position at ZEF University of Bonn in Germany, 2013

Center for Development Research-ZEF

Center for Development Research-ZEF is offering senior postdoctoral research position at Department of Political and Cultural Change University of Bonn in Germany. The work is part of the BMBF-funded competence network ‘Crossroads Asia’. The duration of position is from 1st September 2013 to 31st December 2014 with an extension depending on a project. Researchers of South and Central Asia are eligible for this scholarship.

About Scholarship: The aim of this Senior Researcher position is to contribute to the network’s research by conceptually and methodologically developing research expertise on the multidimensionality and relativity of space. Inspired by the ‘spatial turn’ in the social sciences, ‘space’ itself becomes a research object and category of area studies. The traditional connection of physical/ geographic space and area-specific academic disciplines is critically reflected and questioned.

The successful candidate will develop ‘space’ as an explicit research focus and perspective at ZEF and for Crossroads Asia by bringing conceptual expertise and developing methodological approaches to spatial analyses in collaboration with network colleagues.

Drawing on the empirical research of other work packages, the spatial analysis of social processes is hoped to yield theoretical insights into the multidimensionality of space, into local spatial realities which are socially constructed through interaction as well as into their relations to the externally defined borders of the conventional world regions of Central and South Asia.
