The program is designed to provide training in social work to implement reform, create policy and foster the development of social work. Fellows will be placed at Columbia University in the United States for a two-year graduate program in social work beginning in July 2014 and concluding in May 2016. The program does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation or disability. The competition is merit-based. The application deadline is 1 March 2014.

The Program is designed to provide training in social work to implement reform, create policy and foster the development of social work. Upon the conclusion of the fellowship, fellows return home to apply their new knowledge in practice. Fellows will be placed at Columbia University in the United States for a two-year graduate program in social work beginning in July 2014 and concluding in May 2016.

Eligibility: The Program does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, sex, religion, sexual orientation, or disability. The competition is merit-based and open to those meeting the following criteria:
-Resident of Azerbaijan, Belarus Cambodia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Laos, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan;
- Hold an undergraduate degree (4 or 5 year) at application deadline with an excellent academic record;
- Proficient in spoken and written English at the time of application;
-Able to demonstrate professional aptitude and leadership potential in social work;
-Committed to returning to home country after completion of the program.

Duration: Fellows will be placed at Columbia University in the United States for a two-year graduate program in social work beginning in July 2014 and concluding in May 2016.

Value: Fellowships will cover the following costs: program related travel, pre-departure and arrival orientation, all costs associated with the Pre-Academic summer school program, tuition (for Pre-Academic and Graduate programs), monthly living stipend (to cover room and board), textbooks, professional development support, accident and sickness insurance, and participation in Program meetings in the United States.

Selection Criteria: Selection is based on academic and professional merit, professional aptitude, leadership potential, long-term commitment to social work in applicant’s home country, and English language ability. A U.S.-based selection committee comprised of U.S. professors and admissions officials from Columbia University will review applications of candidates who meet the requirements and select semifinalists.

2014 ACFJ MA Journalism Fellowships at Ateneo de Manila University in Philippines

Ateneo de Manila UniversityCommunication Department of the Ateneo de Manila University is offering full-time masters fellowship program in Journalism. Fellowships are awarded to full-time Asian journalists who have excellent professional and academic record, a commitment to good journalism and leadership qualities. Two year fellowship program covers tuition fees, books, travel (international and domestic) and living expenses for the on-campus sessions and other forms of support. Application must be submitted via post by 15 January 2014.

About Scholarship: Designed for working journalists, the MA Journalism program is a hybrid distance learning program. Online class sessions take place via the learning management system Blackboard, and classroom sessions are held at the Ateneo de Manila University’s Loyola campus in Quezon City, Philippines. The curriculum is made up of 12 courses including courses in ethics and specialized reporting and writing courses such as International Reporting, Investigative Journalism and Reporting about Religions. The program’s design allows working journalists and other media professionals to study at their own pace and time, and in their own homes or workplaces. The international faculty includes experienced journalists and academics from Australia, Canada, US, UK, Germany, the Philippines, India and Malaysia.

Value: A grant covers tuition and other expenses for the two-year MA Journalism degree program offered by the Communication Department of the Ateneo de Manila University. Full grants cover tuition fees, books, travel (international and domestic) and living expenses for the on-campus sessions. Other forms of support are available to senior journalists, teachers and part-time working journalists.

Selection Criteria: The ACFJ Fellowships for M.A. Journalism sponsor Asian journalists who can demonstrate excellence in their work and are contributing in a significant way to the press in their own societies.

About Scholarship: The Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) promotes capacity building within organizations in 62 countries by providing training and education through fellowships for professionals. The NFP is initiated and fully funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the budget for development cooperation.

The overall aim of the NFP is to help increase both the number and the competencies of skilled staff at a wide range of governmental and non-governmental organizations. You have to be nominated by your employer to be eligible for the fellowship. There also has to be a clear need for training within the context of your organization.
